Looking for something fun, free and educational to do with the kids this summer? Head down to Coogee Beach for The Wonders of Water Discovery Tour, an interactive pop-up experience that brings Sydney’s water story to life right by the ocean.

Designed for families and curious minds of all ages, this engaging event explores how every drop of water matters and why protecting our waterways is so important for the future of the Eastern Suburbs and beyond.

Follow the Journey of Water

The highlight of the tour is the Discovery Van, a mobile learning space filled with interactive displays, augmented reality experiences, and game-based activities. Visitors can trace the journey water takes before it reaches your tap – from rainfall and reservoirs to treatment and delivery – in a way that’s easy to understand and surprisingly fun.

The experience also highlights the role of stormwater management, showing how everyday actions can impact local beaches, creeks and marine life, and how communities can help keep our waterways clean.

Meet Jila the Platypus

Kids will love meeting Jila the platypus, Sydney’s friendly water ambassador, who helps guide young learners through hands-on activities focused on building water awareness. Through play, discovery and simple challenges, children learn practical ways to save water and develop sustainable habits at home.

It’s a great opportunity for families to start conversations about sustainability while keeping things light, interactive and enjoyable.

Learn, Play and Enjoy the Beach

Set against the stunning backdrop of Coogee Beach, this event blends learning with a relaxed, beachside atmosphere. Whether you’re a local or just visiting the area, it’s an easy and enjoyable way to spend a summer Sunday while connecting with important environmental ideas that affect our local community.
